This Spring term, we are reading a book about a girl called Laura who writes a diary about her life on the Isles of Scilly in 1907.  Laura's life on the Isles of Scilly is full of hardship, especially when her twin brother Billy disappears and a storm devastates everything. That is until the sailing ship the Zanzibar is wrecked upon the rocks...

In Maths, this half term we are focusing on multiplication and division. We will be recalling facts for the 3,4 and 8 times table, learning written method for multiplication and solving problems using multiplication and division facts. 
 
We are also going to be learning to add and subtract amounts of money as well as interpreting  and presenting data using bar charts, pictograms and tables. 
In English, we are focusing on Non-Fiction writing in the form of a 'diary entries'. This will be based on a Roman Diary which is linked to our topic 'What did the Roman's do for us?'
 
We will first be learning about the features of a diary  through finding features of different diary entries. Then we will be researching about the life of a Roman soldier to help us write a diary entry based on a day in the life of a Roman soldier. 
 
One of the books we will use to help with our research is...
InTopic, we will be learning about the History based unit 'What did the Roman's do for us?' 
We will be exploring this question as well as learning all about the Roman army and why they were such an effective fighting force, the spread of the Roman empire and what the Romans brought to Briton. Sewage systems; the calendar; paved roads; turnips and carrots are all things that were introduced to Britain by the Romans. But where did they come from and why were they here? In Science, we will be learning about the unit 'Forces' where we are focusing on whether different objects have a push or pulling force and the effects of friction on a moving object. We will also be exploring magnets in this unit which will include experimenting which materials are magnetic and non-magnetic and learning about magnetic poles. 
PE 
This term we will be having Sport 4 More sessions which will cover a range of PSHE topics which are taught using sport. 
Please make sure children have their PE kits in school for the half term. We have PE on Mondays and Tuesdays
