This Summer term, we are reading a book about a strange giant Iron Man who appears from nowhere and begins a reign of terror throughout the countryside. Mankind must put a stop to the dreadful destruction caused by the Iron Man. A trap is set for him, but he cannot be kept down. Then, when a terrible monster from outer space threatens to lay waste to the planet, it is the Iron Man who finds a way to save the world.
Our current class book is....

In Maths, this half term we are currently learning about fractions including adding and subtracting fractions, fractions of amounts and equivalent fractions.
We will also be learning about time, shape, mass and capacity during this term.
In English, we are focusing on Non-Fiction writing in the form of a 'newspapers'. This will be based on a mining disaster which is linked to our topic 'Bals, Kerraks and Cousin Jacks'
We will first be learning about the features of a newspaper through finding features of newspaper articles. Then we will be researching about the Lelant mining disaster and write our own newspaper report based on a mining disaster.
We will also be writing our own fiction 'warning tale' where a main character is warned not to do something but ignores the warning. This will be based on a mine, linked to our current topic.
For Topic, we will be learning all about a Cornish topic based on Mining 'Bal's Karreks and Cousin Jacks' which is Cornish for Mines, Rocks and Miners.
Within this unit we will learn about our local heritage of mining and the impact which mining had within the local community. We will also learn about what happened after the mines closed and where Cornish miners went to work in the world.
Children will be creating a floor book of some of the lovely work we will be completing during this topic. We are also planning an exciting school trip linked to our topic.
In Science, we will be learning about the unit 'Rocks' which will link to our topic on mining. In this unit we will be learning about the layers of the Earth, different rock types, the properties of rocks, which rocks and man made or natural and understanding how fossils were made with a range of exciting practical experiments.
Please make sure children have their PE kits in school for the half term. We have PE on Mondays and Tuesdays.
We will be having a focus on athletics and multi skills this term, getting children ready for our Sports Day at Carn Brea.
