Reading Events

Look below at some of our cool events we have held this year to celebrate our passion and love of reading!

On World Book Day 2023, we decided to celebrate with the theme 'Bedtime Stories'. We wore our best pyjamas and made some storytelling book jars which we used to light up our school hall. We can all use reading to 'Shine Our Lights' at home and at school.

Look at our amazing jars!

We were also joined by author Scott Jones who came in to discuss his new upcoming releases! We are very lucky to be able to work with such an incredible author in our local area.

We also want to use this chance to say a huge well done to Harvey, who has found his love and fondess of reading throughout the past year - check out his thoughts about reading below!

Book Publication Day - Scott Jones

In February, we were so lucky to be selected as the school to hold an actual BOOK PUBLISHING EVENT! How cool!

We were selected by the author himself to host a party in honour of his new book 'Jack and the Time Machine'.

We know that identifying with our Cornish Culture and wider community here at SMJA is really important for all of us.

We held a party in his honour with our very own clock bunting, fancy drinks and even a chance to hear the first exciting chapter of the book!

We loved hearing about the relationship between Jack and his Grandad in the book and learnt lots about how long it takes to create a book.

A LETTER FROM OUR FAVOURITE AUTHOR!

WOW! We are so lucky! Last year, our year 6s wrote letters to people who inspire us. A member of Camel Class wrote to the author of Tom Gates and when we returned to school, we got a reply! A mysterious letter turned up on the mat with a hand drawn on it! Writing for a purpose is so important and it just shows that our writing really can change the world because we got a reply from Liz Pichon! 🌟🌟🍎
